The IRD (Institut de recherche pour le développement) is a French research organism, original and unique on the European development research scene.
Emphasizing interdisciplinarity, the IRD has focused its research for over 65 years on the relationship between man and its environment, in Africa, Mediterranean, Latin America, Asia and the French tropical overseas territories.
Its research, training and innovation activities are intended to contribute to the social, economic and cultural development of southern countries.

The IRD is involved in Vietnam as part of its research since the early 1990s. The research activities are conducted by IRD researchers on assignment with Vietnamese research institutions or researchers during short or medium stays. These research activities, defined in cooperation between IRD researchers and Vietnamese partners, are carried out jointly by researchers of both countries and aim to develop and acquire original knowledge publishable in the best international scientific journals and used for the development of Vietnam.

Our partners
IRD in Vietnam is now reporting to the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam.
The actions of the IRD in Vietnam are conducted in partnership with seven universities, 24 research institutes, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, and the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences, often in synergy with other French ( CNRS, CIRAD, AFD) or international institutions (AUF, OMS, UNICEF, IWMI…).

The USTH
The USTH was created by a Vietnam-France intergovernmental agreement signed in November 2009.
This Vietnamese university of excellence aims to train students at Master or Doctorate levels by involving closely Education, Research and Innovation. Within the French consortium of USTH, IRD is a particularly active partner of this project.
